Frequently Asked Questions

The Rising Star Council functions as an advisory board and pool of volunteers for Clamour Theatre Company, reviewing programming and fundraising plans, helping to turn those plans into reality, and coming up with new ideas.

Theatre knowledge is always helpful, but you do not have to have a background in theatre to be a valuable member of the RSC.  Most important is a willingness to help and time to do so. If you have theatre skills, great! If you are happy setting up chairs, also great! If you have any non-theatre specialized skills–legal expertise, accounting knowledge, real estate experience–we would love to have you join us as well.

The RSC meets on the first Saturday of every month with Clamour’s Artistic Director for 2 hours to review current programming plans and to brainstorm new ideas. Members commit to spending some additional time outside of these monthly meetings to help to turn those plans into reality.

While not everyone on the RSC is expected to do everything listed below, the following are ways in which RSC members can pitch in:

  • Read and evaluate scripts under consideration.
  • Brainstorm programming and fundraising ideas.
  • Assist with implementing programming and fundraising plans by:
    • designing social media posts and marketing materials
    • assisting with teaching Clamour theatre classes for young people (requires fingerprints and nationwide background check)
    • planning fundraising campaigns
    • assisting with solicitation of donations and sponsorships
    • helping with load-ins and load-outs
    • helping with front-of-house and backstage production activities (i.e, box office, ushering, stage management, lighting or sound board operation, stage crew
    • helping to research and draft grant applications
    • assisting with recruiting for Clamour classes, productions, and fundraising events
  • early knowledge of Clamour classes, productions, and auditions
  • discounts to Clamour theatre classes
  • opportunities to learn new theatre skills (acting, directing, lighting, sound, scenic, and costume design)
  • opportunities to learn nonprofit management skills
  • the joy of participating in worthwhile endeavors on behalf of an artistic community
