Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

This class is for the amateur or professional adult actor. It can be a great introduction and foundation for the craft or a way to keep growing and improving. Ideally, students will have had some production experience OR at least one acting class, but beginners can be accommodated. You should consider this class if:

– You have never done any acting but would like to know what it’s all about, may want to pursue it, or may simply want to become more comfortable speaking in front of people

– You have done some acting in the past and now want refresh your skills

– You have done a lot of acting, have never taken a class or haven’t taken one in a long time, and want to see if you’ve been missing anything

– You have done a lot of acting and want to keep growing and improving in your craft

This class is for people who would like to improve their audition skills.  Ideally, you should have at least one monologue memorized on which you want to work to get started, but we can identify and explore material if you don’t know where to start.

This class is for people who attend networking events at which they are given time to talk about their business (the “elevator pitch”). You should have a 30 second, 45 second, or 60 second speech to get started. We’ll help you improve your delivery and offer tips on content, if necessary.

Currently, classes are being offered primarily for adults 18 and above.  Minors will be considered if a parent or guardian plans to either enroll in the class, too, or commits to being there for each class session.  There is no maximum age limit.

Attendance in any group acting class is important.  Your scene partner can’t work if you aren’t there.  Even in a monologue class, we learn from each other.

To encourage attendance, we ask for a $50 deposit as part of your class fee.  If you attend EVERY class, you will get a $50 refund.

Yes! If you have the time, you are welcome to take multiple classes.

FAQs

Students will learn simple vocal and physical warmups, how to create a character, the basic structure of a play, and how to work together as an ensemble to produce and perform it. Please note:  This is NOT a class covering musical theatre skills although we are able to answer some questions about musical theatre if students have them.

Students will perform the short (10 – 20 minute) play they will create together in our class sessions during the final class session. It will be presented in the classroom rather than on a stage. There will be minimal costume, props, and set pieces. Production elements like lights and sound will not be included.  The focus will be on the acting skills.

Parents, siblings, and any neighbors and friends who are available will be welcome to attend.

Beginners and more experienced students are all welcome in this class.

There will be at least two adults who have been fingerprinted and passed a nationwide background check present at every class session.

This class is available to teens 14 years old through 17 years old.

Siblings registering from the same family will receive the following discounts:

  • 2 students – 20% off each registration fee = $180 per student
  • 3 students – 30% off each registration fee = $140 per student

If you have more than 3 teens in your family who want to take the class, please email info@clamourtheatre.org or call 917-902-7210 to discuss options.

Registration fees are due no later than the beginning of the first class session.  Payment by check or cash is appreciated. If you need to pay electronically, we can send you a PayPal invoice.

There are a limited number of spaces in this class so that we may give each student individual attention. Because of that and because of the collaborative nature of theatre, we ask that you do not register unless your teen is committed to taking the class.

Refund Policy

  • Full Refund: A full refund will be provided if your teen withdraws up to 24 hours prior to the first class session.
