FREE AUDITION COACHING
Saturday, June 28, 2025 − 10 am to 12 noon

For actors in northeast Florida, the annual First Coast Unified Auditions will, once again, be organized and hosted by the Limelight Theatre in St. Augustine in mid-to-late-July. The Unified Auditions are a chance for actors to be seen by multiple area theatres all at once.

People have booked roles through these auditions!  Why not improve your chances by getting some coaching ahead of time.

Clamour Theatre Company is pleased to offer an opportunity for actors to be coached on their audition monologues prior to the Unified Auditions (or any other audition opportunity) for FREE on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 10 am to 12 noon.

(Actors who don’t yet feel ready to be coached may sign up to observe the class. Auditing is also FREE.)

Sign-up:  To sign up to audit or to work, please use the form below. Don’t wait! There are limited slots available for coaching. If you have trouble with the form or would like to request further information, please email info@clamourtheatre.org, or call 917-902-7210.

How It Will Work

Actors who have chosen a 1 to 2 minute monologue may sign up below to present a monologue in class and get feedback from Clamour Artistic Director Elaine Smith.

Don’t worry. Sign up, anyway. But you must have selected a monologue by June 28 and be prepared to present it in class that day or relinquish your slot.

If time permits, yes, you can get feedback on two monologues. All registrants will do their first monologue and get feedback. Then, if we still have time, we will allow those who have signed up for two pieces to do their second monologue.

You can sign-up to “audit” the class and learn what you can by observing others work. Auditing is also free.

If you do want feedback but aren’t comfortable getting it in front of a class, we do offer private coaching. However, there is a $25 fee per half hour. Please email info@clamourtheatre.org to arrange private coaching.

We would prefer that you stay for the whole session. You can learn a lot by watching other people work and be coached. And, it’s important, for everyone to get used to being watched.

That said, if you have to go to work, yes, of course you can leave. Please exit as quietly and unobtrusively as you can.

In this context, “auditing” means registering to observe the class without doing a monologue yourself. In an actual audition, the auditors are the people who are watching the auditions with a view to possibly casting those auditioning.

If you aren’t ready to present and be coached in public but would like the business tips and whatever you can learn from observing other coaching sessions, auditing is a good opportunity to get that information and to get some idea of how a Clamour Class goes.

If you sign up to audit, you  will be an observer rather than a participant.  You are asked to commit to the entire two-hour session and to support the actors who are working with your respectful attention.

Unfortunately, there will not be time during or before this class for us to help you find monologues. If you need guidance, please email info@clamourtheatre.org for info and fees for individual recommendations.

There is no upper age limit.  Minors under 18 are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Typically, young people under the age of 12 are not comfortable in this type of setting. If you think your child can handle it and would benefit from it, please email info@clamourtheatre.org so that we can discuss it.

There will be no accompanist available. We strongly recommend you use this opportunity to focus on the monologue portion of your audition.

Most auditions ask for a 2 minute monologue. You can always do a shorter piece, but longer is usually not an option. A 1 minute monologue is often a good choice. For this class, your monologue should be no longer than 2 minutes.  Please time it to be sure you aren’t exceeding the allotted time limit. We can give you some grace in class, but it’s likely you will be cut off in an audition situation.

We will assign people to present their monologues in the order in which their applications arrive. We will email you the week before the class with your assigned order.  If you have specific time constraints, please follow up your application with an email to info@clamourtheatre.org.

We get it. Things change. Life happens.

If you are unable to attend the class on June 28, please let us know at info@clamourtheatre.org as soon as you realize you won’t be able to make it, so we can give your slot to another actor.

This class is for the amateur or professional adult actor. It can be a great introduction and foundation for the craft or a way to keep growing and improving. Ideally, students will have had some production experience OR at least one acting class, but beginners can be accommodated. You should consider this class if:

– You have never done any acting but would like to know what it’s all about, may want to pursue it, or may simply want to become more comfortable speaking in front of people

– You have done some acting in the past and now want refresh your skills

– You have done a lot of acting, have never taken a class or haven’t taken one in a long time, and want to see if you’ve been missing anything

– You have done a lot of acting and want to keep growing and improving in your craft

This class is for people who would like to improve their audition skills.  Ideally, you should have at least one monologue memorized on which you want to work to get started, but we can identify and explore material if you don’t know where to start.

This class is for people who attend networking events at which they are given time to talk about their business (the “elevator pitch”). You should have a 30 second, 45 second, or 60 second speech to get started. We’ll help you improve your delivery and offer tips on content, if necessary.

Currently, classes are being offered primarily for adults 18 and above.  Minors will be considered if a parent or guardian plans to either enroll in the class, too, or commits to being there for each class session.  There is no maximum age limit.

Attendance in any group acting class is important.  Your scene partner can’t work if you aren’t there.  Even in a monologue class, we learn from each other.

To encourage attendance, we ask for a $50 deposit as part of your class fee.  If you attend EVERY class, you will get a $50 refund.
